Blue Sky Foundation Strategic Plan - November 2002
Our Direction: The United States is becoming ever more proficient at responding to natural and man initiated disasters. Mitigation is emerging as the cutting edge in efforts to combat the impact of hazards that cause destruction to our homes and communities. The Blue Sky Foundation is focusing our resources on ways to use market forces to reduce the effects of natural hazards and keeping them from becoming disasters.
Our Mission: The Blue Sky Foundation is a non-profit, charitable and educational foundation working in the public interest to: 3Provide information, education, and training which promotes safer construction, wise land use, disaster mitigation and sustainable development for all communities in North Carolina2
Our Vision: To help people: Understand and reduce risks, identify actions to protect themselves and their property, evaluate the costs and benefits of actions and find sources of assistance. To help communities: Develop strategies to protect citizens, network, train staff, provide public information, and find sources of assistance.

Foundation Objectives: · Short Term: Develop strategic plan consensus with board, state and showcase Partners · Near Term: Development of a Residential Construction education system for consumers and professionals · Midterm: Combine Showcase and Exemplary Communities in demonstration site · Long-term: Develop Comprehensive Brokering Role for Mitigation - Include Insurance, Builders, Financiers, Government and all other stakeholders in developing markets that work to support hazard mitigation.
