May 24, 1998 Steering Committee Meeting. Committee made recommendations on the mission, activities and organization of the non-profit foundation.
July 7,1998 Foundation Incorporation. Berry Williams files incorporation papers with the Secretary of State, creating the Blue Sky Foundation of North Carolina, Inc.
July 8, 1998 Initial Board of Directors Appointed. As the foundation incorporator, Berry Williams assemblies the initial board of directors. As recommended by the steering committee, the initial board members represent the stakeholder interest of builders, insurance agents, state and local governments and consumers.
July 9, 1998 Initial meeting of the Board of Directors. Initial board officers elected. Joe Thompson was elected as President, Fletcher Willey as Vice-President and Barry Williams as Secretary-Treasurer.
August 19,1998 First Grant to the Foundation. Berry Williams and Associates gives the Foundation its first grant to cover operating cost until other funding can be obtained and to create an operating fund to begin the search for an Executive Director.
September 1998 Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) Grant Application Number I filed. $25,000 grant application submitted to NC Division of Emergency Management. Scope of work includes preparing a foundation brochure; scheduling and conducting training activities; and to build, update and maintain a web site home page.
October 1998 IHMGP Grant Application Number 2 filed. $200,000 grant application submitted to NC Division of Emergency Management to implement strategic plan activities.
